Alzheimer's Project Act Introduced
09/04/09, East Hartford
Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) recently introduced the National Alzheimer's Project Act. If approved, this act would create an office with the Office of the President called the "Office of the National Alzheimer's Project."
The purpose of this office is:
- to promote the research and development of treatment which might delay, slow down or even halt Alzheimer's disease;
- to create a plan nationally which to help deal with the coming epidemic of Alzheimer's;
- to coordinate the treatment and care of individuals who have Alzheimer's disease;
- to help other countries develop strategies to treat and care for their citizens; and,
- to see that minorities, racial and ethnic, are included in studies aimed at eliminating Alzheimer's disease
