Using Canes and Walkers
07/05/09, East Hartford
A recent study found that 47,000 older Americans fall while using walkers and canes and then wind up in the ER. About 9 out of 10 injuries were a result of the use of walkers.
The study, which was published in the June Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, stated that patients should be better fitted and shown how to safely walk using the medical equipment.
